Default Credential Investigations in California

Receiving that initial letter from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing informing you that they will be investigating your fitness to hold a credential can be a scary experience. DO NOT PANIC. Contact our office and/or your local CTA rep. to find out about getting representation.

DO NOT try to represent yourself! You may make unnecessary (and extremely harmful) admissions unintentionally. Our office has handled credential investigations across the state in a wide variety of matters ranging from allegations of sexual abuse of students to multiple DUIs. We first check to determine if the CTC has jurisdiction to investigate our clients.

Assuming they do, we assist our clients in preparing a comprehensive written response to the allegations. Once that is submitted, the next step is to work with our clients to determine if a personal appearance at the hearing is a good idea. This is a highly subjective call and we work hard to determine if it's in our client's best interest to appear.

Once the Committee members have made their recommendation, we negotiate with the CTC attorneys if necessary to try and reach a fair settlement. If necessary, we set the matter for an administrative hearing if a negotiated settlement can't be reached.
