    Default Any advice?

I got a lawyer and we wrote a fixed fee contract. The fixed amount written by him for the giving of a legal opinion. I paid in advance, months past with no contact from him. Then he tries to bill me an additional amount above the fixed fee without issuing an opinion on saying that he did additional work. However he broke the fixed fee and never contacted me for more and never released a receivable on the first contract. Also no hourly rates were agreed to. Now he is trying to bill me for 2 times the fixed fee without issuing his opinion....

Can the lawyers go above the fixed fee and do work without permission? I am completely upset about this issue. Any advice I would be thankful for.

You can demand a fee arbitration through the State Bar using their web site at www. calbar.ca.gov. Isaac
