beware of arrearages
Many people are finding their income reduced right now (as you probably know!). If you are the payor on a child support order and you stop paying support because you've lost your job, or you reduce payments, and the receiving parent seems to be o.k. with that--get it in writing, preferably a court order. Otherwise, the receiving parent can take you back to court months or years later and request that you pay back the entire arrearage, plus 10% annual interest. You may think he/she would never do that, but people do. The same thing applies to spousal support payments. If your financial situation has changed, you need to go to court to get the support order changed.
